Peru government grants Doe Run extension on La Oroya emissions

The Peruvian government published a legal decree Wednesday that will give Doe Run Co. more time to reduce toxic emissions from its La Oroya Metallurgical Complex.

Doe Run Peru, the Peruvian unit of St. Louis-based Doe Run, had threatened to shut its operations in the central Andean district if the government didn't extend the deadline. Executives said the company didn't have enough funds to build a $100-million sulfuric acid plant by 2007, and lobbied for a five-year extension.....
