No. 1 heavy melt exports slide 8.2%

Eastern Mediterranean steel mills took close to half of the No. 1 heavy melting steel scrap shipped from U.S. ports in September.

Shipments to Turkish mills rose to 208,559 tonnes, up 8.2 percent from 192,762 tonnes in August, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Commerce Department. It was the third month in a row that Turkey boosted its purchases of heavy melt shipments and represented its highest one-month total since the end of 2008.....
