NEW YORK Aggressive import tags for flat-rolled stainless and discounting to some large-volume customers have some service centers pushing back against a domestic April base price hike, market players told AMM.
"I hear that theres a lot of pushback on the recent increase," one source said.
Some service centers are refusing to accept the domestic base price increases due to the attractive offers for lower-priced foreign material. Service center sources this week reported offers for bellwether 304 cold-rolled sheet from China in the low $1.40-per-pound range, for delivery in August, well below domestic prices that are today in the mid- to upper-$1.50s. ....
