Copper price drop puts crimp on scrap supply

PHOENIX — The supply of copper scrap in the domestic market has been reduced by falling primary metal prices on Comex, traders and consumers said at the American Copper Council’s Copper College 2012 in Phoenix.

"At $3.50, the local scrap market is very reluctant to move anything," Prime Materials Recovery Inc. metals trader David Schilberg told delegates at an Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) roundtable on Saturday. The roundtable and Copper College are part of the inaugural International Copper Week, which also included the Copper Club’s annual dinner.....
