Peer mills not following AK sheet increase yet

NEW YORK — AK Steel Corp.’s attempt to increase steel sheet prices by a further $30 per ton failed to draw backing from other mills as of Wednesday afternoon, market sources told AMM.

"No one else is saying much," a Midwest service center source said.

A mill source noted that pricing in the sheet market has been stronger since the back-to-back increase announcements started at the beginning of July (amm.com, July 2), but said he was unsure if and when his mill would follow in the wake of AK Steel’s most recent move (amm.com, Aug. 6). ....
