Norsk Hydro won’t cut more aluminum output: Brandtzaeg

NEW YORK — Despite aluminum prices remaining low amid plentiful supply, Norsk Hydro ASA is not planning further production cuts, the company’s chief executive officer Svein Richard Brandtzaeg told AMM sister publication Metal Bulletin in an interview.
With China, the world’s largest aluminum producer, failing to cut capacity in response to industry calls for cutbacks, Western producers, including Norsk Hydro, have been at the forefront of reducing output, Brandtzaeg said.
Norsk Hydro has significantly curtailed its capacity since 2008, most recently by cutting 180,000 tonnes of annual output at its Kurri Kurri smelter in Australia.
But the Oslo, Norway-based company isn’t planning any further cuts, Brandtzaeg told Metal Bulletin.....
