LOS ANGELES Three major domestic steelmakers are vying to supply the plate for a large bridge construction project on the West Coast.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corp., Chicago-based ArcelorMittal USA Inc. and the Evraz Claymont Steel unit of Chicago-based Evraz Inc. North America have bid to supply the steel for the replacement of the Sellwood Bridge, an 87-year-old structure that spans the Willamette River in Portland, Ore., according to Larry Gescher, project manager for Slayden Construction Group Inc., Stayton, Ore. ....
