‘Green Fence’ hinders zurik shipments to China

NEW YORK — China’s stepped-up enforcement of existing regulations on solid waste imports, known as Operation Green Fence, has made it virtually impossible to ship shredded nonferrous sensor-sorted scrap to Chinese ports, several export sources told AMM.

The material, commonly referred to as zurik, is comprised mainly of stainless steel, insulated copper wire, aluminum, copper, lead, magnesium, nickel, tin and zinc, in elemental or alloyed (solid) form, according to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.....
