Copper mill, scrap prices rise in Aug.

CHICAGO — Prices for copper and brass mill shapes, copper scrap and nonferrous ores strengthened in August compared with the previous month, while other metals were mixed, according to the latest producer price index (PPI) report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The index for red metal shapes rose 4.4 percent last month after falling 2.2 percent in July, while the copper scrap PPI increased 4.8 percent, reversing a 4.7-percent decline in July. The index for nonferrous metal ores rose 4.5 percent in August after falling 6.9 percent the previous month.....
