Big River delayed to '14 on Nucor appeal

NEW YORK — Groundbreaking at Big River Steel LLC’s proposed $1.1-billion steel mill in Arkansas, led by industry veteran John D. Correnti, has been delayed until 2014 following an air permit appeal from Nucor Corp.

"Big River has a very large competitor (Nucor) that has operations here in the state that has really resisted Big River’s development from the moment that it was announced," Grant Tennille, director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, said during a Nov. 3 segment of the local news program Talk Business. "That competitor is now in the process of challenging the air permit that was granted to Big River Steel by the Department of Environmental Quality.
