Metals shipment, order values fall in November

CHICAGO The value of metals product shipments fell in November vs. the previous month, the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data show.
Primary metal producers shipments were valued at nearly $24.5 billion, down 8.3 percent from October. Some of the decline could be attributed to the Thanksgiving holiday, as well as unplanned and maintenance outages.
West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp. had an unplanned outage at its Middletown, Ohio, blast furnace (amm.com, Dec. 18), for example, and aluminum producers reported weather-related power outages during November (amm.com, Nov. 20). Wire rod manufacturers took planned maintenance downtime starting Thanksgiving week (amm.com, Nov. 13).....
