Scrap battery demand boosts prices

NEW YORK Battery manufacturers restocking inventories for the summer have provided strong demand for recycled batteries, pushing prices higher over the past month.
Vehicle batteries on their last legs typically give out during hot summer months, and some battery makers stocking store shelves with replacements have supported firmer prices for scrapped batteries, which are not in abundant supply.
"Smelters need to keep their plants functioning, and for those that are running there isnt that heavy outflow of old batteries," one supplier source said.....
