Outokumpu providing stainless bar for Nevada solar plant

NEW YORK — Outokumpu Oyj has secured a contract to supply 60 tonnes of lean duplex stainless hot-rolled black bar to the Crescent Dunes solar plant project in Tonopah, Nev.

The 70-millimeter LDX2101-grade product will be sourced from the company’s Sheffield, England, mill and will be further machined to create mounting bolts for the solar panels, it said.

Espoo, Finland-based Outokumpu is also in the process of supplying 650 tonnes of stainless quarto plate for the project’s hot storage tank.

The Crescent Dunes solar plant will start operations in the beginning of 2014, providing energy to customers in California and Nevada.
