MOSCOW — Major Russian steelmakers’ export sales declined in April while domestic sales grew slightly, not-for-profit industry organization Russian Steel said May 21.

The changes came amid weak markets both at home and abroad, but with almost no reductions in production volumes.

Russia’s principal steelmakers exported a combined 1.64 million tonnes of rolled products—including slab, billet, flat-rolled steel and long steel products—in April, down 16 percent year on year and 15 below levels seen in March.

Combined domestic rolled product sales volumes were 2.84 million tonnes in April, up 3 percent both year on year and month on month.

Russian Steel collects production and sales data from such member companies as Evraz Group SA, Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK), Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK), Mechel OAO and Metalloinvest Holding Co.
