Outokumpu cuts stainless steel surcharges

NEW YORK — Outokumpu Stainless USA LLC has lowered its surcharges across most grades of stainless steel for October.

The Calvert, Ala.-based company set its October surcharges at 63.9 cents per pound for Type 304 material, down 2 percent from 65.19 cents in September; 43.16 cents for Type 201, down 2.1 percent from 44.07 cents; and 88.07 cents for Type 316, down 1.2 percent from 89.12 cents per pound. The surcharge for Type 430 material, which contains no nickel, has been lowered 1.8 percent to 22.21 cents per pound from 22.61 cents in the same comparison.

The move follows similar reductions by West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp., Ghent, Ky.-based North American Stainless Inc. and Brackenridge, Pa.-based ATI Allegheny Ludlum Corp. (, Sept. 23).
