SDI’s Teets succeeds Ferriola as SMA chairman

NEW YORK — Richard Teets Jr. has been named chairman of the Steel Manufacturers Association’s (SMA’s) board of directors, the association said in a statement Jan. 23.

Teets, executive vice president of steelmaking and president and chief operating officer of steel operations at Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Steel Dynamics Inc., replaces John Ferriola in the post. Ferriola, chairman and chief executive officer of Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corp., served as chairman of the Washington-based group for the past two years and will remain on SMA’s executive committee.

Tracy Porter, senior vice president of Irving, Texas-based Commercial Metals Co. and president of its CMC Americas Inc. subsidiary in Baton Rouge, La., was elected first vice chairman of the board. Jeff Dyck, president of Cascade Steel Rolling Mills Inc., McMinnville, Ore., was elected second vice chairman.

SMA is a trade association with a predominant membership of North American electric-arc furnace steel producers.
