CHICAGO — Ormet Corp. is seeking approval to sell about 24,000 tonnes of alumina to Trafigura AG for nearly $6 million, according to court documents.

Hannibal, Ohio-based Ormet has agreed to sell the sandy calcined metallurgical grade alumina for $249 per tonne to the Lucerne, Switzerland-based trading house, according to documents filed March 26 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

Objections are due by March 31.

Ormet has been selling what it considers to be excess assets in recent months, including copper rods, anodes and alumina (amm.com, Oct. 16).
