NEW YORK — SunCoke Energy Inc. produced an estimated 414,000 tons of coke at its Haverhill, Ohio, and Middletown, Ohio, coking operations during the first quarter of 2014, down 6.3 percent from 442,000 tons in the year-ago period.

The portion of this production attributable to SunCoke Energy, which owns a 65-percent interest in both facilities, is 269,000 tons in the first quarter vs. 287,000 tons for the same year-ago period.

"The year-over-year decline reflects the impact of severe winter weather on coke production and yield performance, primarily at our Haverhill facility," the Lisle, Ill.-based company said a statement April 4.

SunCoke recently said it plans to sell its metallurgical coal assets and wind down a 33-percent stake in the two Ohio coke assets (amm.com, March 12).
