NEW YORK — R. Paul Sandmeyer III has joined Sandmeyer Steel Co. as materials procurement manager, the stainless steel and nickel alloy plate processor and distributor said April 10.

Sandmeyer replaces Gerald J. Geiger Sr., who plans to retire midyear after 41 years with the Philadelphia-based company. Sandmeyer is the son of the company’s president and chief executive officer, Ronald P. Sandmeyer Jr.; the grandson of chairman Ronald P. Sandmeyer Sr.; and the great-grandson of the company’s founder, the late Paul C. Sandmeyer.

Sandmeyer III joins the 62-year-old family owned and managed business from Mt. Laurel, N.J.-based PHH Mortgage, where he served as a mortgage loan consultant. Prior to that, he worked as an intern with Steel & Metals Market Research GmbH in Austria.

"It’s not many companies that make it to even the third generation," Sandmeyer Jr. said in a statement. "For us to have a member of the fourth generation come on board is a significant milestone in the history of the company and a proud moment for me personally."
