NEW YORK — Gerdau Special Steel North America and Nucor Corp. have raised base prices on special bar quality (SBQ) products by $40 per ton ($2 per hundredweight) effective with shipments Sept. 1.

Jackson, Mich.-based Gerdau Special Steel announced its increase in a July 31 letter to customers, and Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor followed with a similar letter dated Aug. 1.

Nucor’s increase will be in addition to raw material and other applicable surcharges, the company said. The steelmaker also raised transactional base pricing on all carbon and alloy cold-heading-quality coiled bar products by $40 per ton.
